As per Ayurved, Kapha (Imbalanced Kapha not natural Kapha) is the main factor for Diabetes but there are other factors also. This imbalanced Kapha creates extra wetness in their body and due to this people have to go for urination frequently. Their all 7 dhatus (tissues) Rasa (Plasma), Rakta (Blood), Mamsa (Muscle), Medha (Natural Fat), Asthi (Bone), Majja (Marrow), Shukra (Reproductive fluids) go out of body slowly through urination and after few years their body becomes very thin and weak. People who eat more oily and heavy food and don't do any exercise or physical activity have more chances of Diabetes. Kapha is heavy and smooth in nature which is why in order to reduce it, we need food items which are light and dry in nature. Bitter taste and Astringent taste food items are light and dry in nature and they help in reducing Kapha. When Kapha amount reduces in our body it will reduce sugar level also by reducing wetness from Rakta dhatu (blood tissue).
Food which helps to cure Diabetes :
1. Indian Gooseberry (Amla) and Turmeric :As per ayurved, bitter and astringent taste is good for curing diabetes or Kapha related diseases. You can take 1 spoon of amla powder, 1 spoon of honey and 1/4 spoon of turmeric powder early morning in empty stomach (after motion). Use pure honey or 1 year old honey. Amla is light, dry and cold in nature and turmeric is light, dry and heat in nature and honey is also light and dry in nature. It helps in reducing Kapha from our body. Use it for 3 months then give a break of one month and again you can start this. People who have constipation or dry stool problem shouldn't use this because it will increase the dryness.
2. Fenugreek (Methi) :It is heat in nature and bitter in taste. It helps in reducing Kapha amount in our body. Diabetes patient should consume fenugreek seeds early moring in empty stomach it will help them to reduce extra Kapha(imbalanced Kapha/Fat) amount from their body. Soak 10 to 15 seeds in hot water and drink this water in the morning with honey in empty stomach. Do this for 20 days. It can be repeated later if it is required again.
3. Garlic : Pre-Diabetic Symptoms :It is heat in nature and pungent in taste. Good for Vata and Kapha body type. For pitta body type it should be avoided in Summer and Autumn seasons. If you have prediabetic symptom like frequent urination in that case add garlic or garlic pickle in your food. It helps in reducing Kapha amount from our body due to its heat in nature.
4. Cinnamon :People who have diabetes problem and have to go for urination frequently, they should use cinnamon in their food. It helps in insulin formation also. You can take 2 to 3 pinch of cinnamon powder in a day. It is light, dry and sharp in nature. It is heat in nature and sweet, bitter and pungent in taste.
5. Khadir (Kattha) :It is light and dry in nature and bitter and astringent in taste. Good for Kapha (due to dry nature) Pitta (due to bitter taste) related diseases. It helps in reducing extra wetness from body and helps in frequent urination problem also.
6. Walking :As per ayurved, diabetes can be controlled and cured (if it is new). Walking on barefoot is best for diabetes patient. Physical activity reduces Kapha amount from our body you can do 30 mins of exercise or can walk for 1 km daily. Try to involve yourself in any physical activity it helps in reducing imbalanced Kapha from body.
7. Jaamun (Java Plum) & Indian Bel Fruit :These fruits are very beneficial for diabetic patients. Jaamun (Java Plum) helps to control blood sugar and helps to reduce weight. Bel fruit has property to control blood sugar, it removes toxin from body and gives nourishment to all seven tissues (Dhatu) - Rasa (Plasma), Rakta (Blood), Mamsa (Muscle), Medha (Natural Fat), Asthi (Bone), Majja (Marrow), Shukra (Reproductive fluids).
8. Rice and FlourDiabetic patient should eat food which is light in nature and easily digestable. Rice is also important for them because after 5 to 10 years of diabetes their body tissue starts degenerating due to lack of nourishment. We know that only natural sweet taste gives nourishment to all our 7 tissues. It has been seen that after few years of diabetes a fat person also becomes very thin and weak due to lack of sweet taste. Rice is sweet in taste and diabetes patient should consume rice once in a day. Before cooking rice roast it on tawa for 2 mins. When we roast any grains on tawa before cooking then it becomes light in weight and easily digestable without loosing it's property. After roasting the rice, wash it properly and then cook it in a pot (don't use pressure cooker). Drain the cooked rice water (becuase it contains Kapha) and then consume the rice. For flour they should use barley flour instead of bajra or wheat flour because barley flour is also light in weight and easy to digest. You can roast flour also on a pan for 2 mins before kneading it. Remember undigested food makes toxins in our body and increases Kapha amount.
9. Sweet Taste : Sweet taste gives nourishment to our body and it is required for people from all age groups. If you are type 1 diabetic and if you are thin then you should not stop sweet taste completely. Honey, Cow-Ghee and 1 year old jaggery should be consumed in very less amount. Honey helps in reducing Kapha so it is good for diabetes patient. If you have 1 year old honey then it is very beneficial.
10. Puffed Rice/Bhel or Roasted Food Items :Food which is dry in nature is good for diabetic patient suggested by Ayurved. In Diabetes Kapha amount and wetness increases in body due to extra wetness in their body their wounds dont get cured fast and due to wetness they have to go for urination frequently. Due to frequent urination, all 7 tissues go out of their body slowly and after few years they become very thin and lean. Puffed rice/Bhel or roasted food items are dry in nature and they help to soak extra wetness of our body.
