In Ayurved, food consumption according to season is very important. It keeps us healthy. In rainy seasons (July & August) Vata dosha increases and it slows down our digestive fire. So we should eat food which is light and heat in nature, should have sour and salty taste. First check your body type and then add food items according to season & your body type.

Grains :Rice cooked without pressure cooker can be consumed along with ghee. Cooker rice is difficult to digest and increases bloating and gas problems. For kids you can use broken rice, cook it in water without pressure. Drain the extra water and put ginger, kokum (sour in taste) and cumin, ghee tadka on it, sprinkle some salt to taste. Kids can consume this if they have digestion problem in rainy season, same thing can be consumed by old age people also.

.Wheat chapati is little heavy in nature. Try to consume old wheat flour chapati in rainy season, it is light and easy to digest. If old grains are not available then heat the flour in a pan for 2 to 3 min then make a dough. After heating flour, it becomes light in nature. Barley is light in nature, consume barley chapati in rainy season. Dont forget to apply ghee or oil on chapati.

Pulses (Daal): Moong daal is very light in nature, consume moong daal during rainy season. If you want to consume toor, Massor (lentil) dal, then roast the daal in a pan for 2 to 3 min then cook it. It will become light in nature and easily digestable. Dont forget to put cumin and garlic tadka with ghee. Daal without tadka is dry in nature and if you consume this kind of daal it gives burps and gas problems.

.Sour taste increases Pitta in body and reduces Vata. Pickles can be consumed in rainy season in little amount. Lemon, fenugreek, Amla pickle is best for rainy season. Curd also can be consume during rainy season twice a week.

Vegetables : Brinjal, Bottleguard, Parwal, Sponge gourd(Jhinga), Ladyfinger, Bitter gourd(made in ghee), all seasonal vegetables. Potato also should be consumed very less because it is heavy in nature and wont get digested easily.

Avoid : Paneer, all kinds of leafy vegetables or saag (spinach, batuha, red spinach). Capsicum increases Vata in body, it should be avoided in rainy season. Spicy foods increases burning sensation and Pitta in body.

Fruits:Kiwi, Star fruit, Sweet Lime, Pomegranate, Apple, White pumpkin or ash gourd, Dry coconut should be consumed. All sweet fruits like, muskmelon, watermelon, mango should be avoided.

Spices :Ginger, Heeng, Turmeric,Cumin,Coriander leaf and powder, Curry leaf, Garlic. Use garam masala in less amount.

Drink :Use hot or luke warm water to drink in rainy season. Boil 1 ltr water till it becomes half, turn off the gas. When water cools down add a spoon of honey in this water to drink. Honey should be consumed in normal water. It should not be consumed with hot water, it makes toxins and it is not recommended in Ayurved.

Tea :Avoid drinking milk tea durng rainy season. Add ginegr in tea if you want to drink it, try to drink 1 or 2 cup of tea, it gives constipation problem if it is consumed more. Ginger, Tulsi, Turmeric tea is best to drink during rainy season.

.If your digestive fire is slow, than avoid eating heavy foods during rainy season. To increase digestive fire eat 1 spoon of grated ginger along with pink salt (Sendha Namak) 20 mins before food. During rainy season drink a cup of buttermilk with ginger powder, black pepper and black salt after food. Please avoid buttermilk if you have fainting issue, burning sensation & bleeding problem. Since buttermilk is heat in nature so it should be consumed by Vata and Kapha body type people. Pitta body type can consume this twice in a week in rainy season. You can have betel leaf after food, it is heat in nature and helps in food digestion. It shouldn't be consumed more than twice in a day.

.All fried item (pakode) made in oil can be consumed once in a week.

.Avoid non-veg during rainy season. We know that non-veg foods are heavy in nature and takes more time to digest. Fish and eggs can be consumed once in a week or 10 days.

.Use dhoop or lobhan during morning and evening time, it protects our house from bacteria and keeps us healthy.

.Oil massage before bath is compulsory in rainy season, it avoids all kinds of joint pains due to Vata.

Note : People who feels burning sensation, have excessive sweat problem or have any kind of bleeding problem, dizziness problem should avoid Curd, Buttermilk and Betel leaf.
