In summer season (May & June) due to excessive heat ground-water gets dried up. Similarly in our body Kapha (combination of water & Earth) gets dry and Vata & Pitta increases due to excessive heat. Due to imbalance of Vata & Kapha in summer season we get tired soon, feel hot. We can avoid such problems if we change our food as suggested by Ayurved. In summer season Spicy, Salty & Sour food taste should be avoided and Sweet, Astringent & Bitter should be added in more amount.
Grains :Rice cooked in pot with a spoon of ghee, Wheat, Jowar and Corn flour chapati can be used. Apply ghee on chapati before eating. Raggi, millets, Jau flour chapati should be avoided during summer season.
Pulses (Daal) :All kinds of Daal (Moong dal is best) except urad (heat in nature) should be consumed. Peas, Rajma should be avoided (it is heavy in nature and makes gas in stomach).
Vegetables :Spinach, Ladies finger, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kundru, Bottle gourd, Parwal, bathua, Pumpkin and all seasonal vegetables should be consumed.
Milk Products :Paneer, curd, Rabri, Kheer (payas), makkhan, milk with mishri must be consumed. Avoid curd in summer season because it is heat in nature.
Fruits :Mangoes(ripe), Lichhi, Coconut water, Cucumber, Watermelon, Muskmelon, Custard apple, Banana, Amla (in any form), Dry dates, Dry grapes(munakka) can be consumed.
Spices :Turmeric, cumin, coriander powder, black pepper, chilli powder(in less amount) can be used. All kinds of garam masala should be used in less amount.
Drink :Aam panna, Raw mango juice (first boil the mango), Sattu, Gulab juice, Sandal jucie, Khas khas juice. Newly made clay-pot water, Coconut water. Drink milk with mishri at night before sleep it helps in good sleep in summer season. Both cow-milk and buffalo-milk (if digestion is good) can be consumed in summer season.
Tea :Avoid Tea.
Exercise :In this season our body strength is not good so we should avoid exercise. Walking in the morning is good for summer season. Day time sleeping is also good, it increases Kapha in body.
Things to avoid in summer :Direct exposure to sun should be avoided. Always cover your body before going out. Brinjal, Bittergourd, drumstick, Fenugreek, Capsicum - these vegetables are heat in nature. Curd and buttermilk both are heat in nature and should be avoided in summer season. All sour fruits should be avoided.
NOTE :Raw mango should be avoided as it increases heat in the body. If you want to drink raw mango juice then first boil it.
