Ayurved is a combination of Ayu(life) and Ved(knowledge), means knowledge of how to live life. People who know basics of Ayurved can save themself from many diseases. Ayurved is basically balance of Vata(Air), Pitta(Fire) and Kapha(Earth), because all diseases in our body are related to imbalance of Vata, Pitta & Kapha. These imbalances are called as Tridosham. In Ayurved, it is very important to have food as per body type and as per season to keep ourselves healthy. Our indian foods are spicy and oily but most of us dont know that our spices and oil (not refined oil) also play an important role to keep ourselves heathly. These spices and oils maintain the balance of Vata(Air), Pitta(Fire) & Kapha(Earth).
In our culture it is mandatory to do Agni Sanskara(Cook food on fire) to prepare any food, because when food is cooked on fire it becomes light in weight and easy to digest. Due to different climatic conditions in different parts of India, corresponding food habits are also different which is mainly to maintain the balance between the climate and our body.
Our festivals foods have also been selected by our ancestors to keep us healthy. Now it has become very important to learn more about our traditional food habits.
